Healthy Road Trip Snacks

There's nothing quite like a quintessential summer road trip - windows down, friends or family by your side, discovering the beauty of the scenery whizzing by. But nothing pairs with obscure monuments and the perfect playlist quite like delicious, healthy road trip snacks!

When you hear "road trip snacks," you might think bags of candy and gas station chips - but these are no ordinary junk-filled vending machine snacks. These are adventure fuel -  tasty and guaranteed to carry you through your days of exploration without the need to risk your stomach on the stale pretzels you found in the glove compartment. Buckle up, and join us for a little summer journey.

Creating the Perfect Road Trip Snack

The key to a satisfying road trip snacks stash is to cover the key craving groups: protein, fruits and veggies, crunchy/salty, and sweet treats. Here are a few of our favorites:

Protein

  • A clean jerky, grass fed beef sticks, or meat bars like Epic or Krave
  • Your favorite nuts or seeds
  • Protein bars with wholesome ingredients, like GoMacro or Perfect Bars
  • Nut butter pouches for snacking or topping other snacks
  • Tuna or salmon in a can or pouch (wild caught or sustainable line-caught, please!)
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Hummus
  • A great sandwich on a hearty, sprouted bread is hard to beat for a roadside picnic. Skip the tomatoes to avoid soggy bread.

Fruits & Veggies

You can really get wild here. Grab whatever fruits and veggies you're into, but the best options are those that create minimal waste. Some ideas to get you started:

  • Oranges or clementines
  • Apples
  • Avocados or homemade guacamole
  • Carrot sticks
  • Celery
  • Mini peppers
  • Mini cucumbers
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Grapes
  • Berries

Crunchy/Salty

  • Baked chickpeas
  • Air-popped popcorn with sea salt
  • Kale, beet, or sweet potato chips, with fun seasonings like ranchrosemary, or salt and vinegar
  • Rice or seed crackers

Sweets

  • Dark chocolate (a necessity)
  • Homemade granola
  • Homemade muffins or a heartier cookie, like these breakfast cookies
  • Protein or energy balls are hard to beat for a tasty, protein-and-healthy-fat packed snack. Just try to steer clear of any that are totally fat-based if you're not bringing a cooler. We could give you lots of recipes, but go ahead and follow your own heart with this easy method
